Parent Support

How do you approach parent support?

As with therapy, a client-centred approach is taken and services are dictated by the goal of the parent. Therefore, if a parent is looking to better understand their child’s diagnosis and how to help, a psycho-educational approach may be used. Information about the diagnosis, resources, and specific strategies may be shared. If a parent is looking to identify ways to better support their child and hopes to reflect on their parenting approach, a therapeutic approach would be used. Attachment theory guides this work. Although specific strategies may be discussed, this approach relies heavily on self-reflection and a willingness to make changes to ones own approach to parenting in an effort to support ones child.

Will you also see my child?

There may be times when it is appropriate to have family sessions, however, the majority of the work will be done with the parent(s). Children 12 years and older could also have individual therapy sessions to supplement this work if deemed necessary and appropriate.

What is the fee for this service?

Similar to therapy, the fee is $200 per hour/session.
